Enabling and control devices Series 016

The 3-position enabling switches of the 016 Series are essential devices for safe operation inside hazardous zones of industrial automation systems. Used together with a start command, they allow the machine to operate only when the operator maintains the correct enabling position, ensuring full control during delicate activities such as adjustments, teaching, maintenance or troubleshooting.

The device operates according to an anti-panic logic:

• Position 1: OFF, actuator not pressed
• Position 2: ON, enabling position
• Position 3: OFF, excessive pressure → immediate stop

An enabling switch never works on its own: it must be integrated into a redundant safety system, typically a relay with dual-channel architecture, operating in stop category 0 or 1.

Only in this configuration is it guaranteed that the machine reacts correctly to every position change.

Key information:

👉 When returning from position 3 to position 1, machine operation must not be allowed.

This logic prevents unintended restarts.

it may be necessary to remove protective guards or temporarily override traditional safety systems.

The enabling switch allows the operator to:
